BÁVARO, La Altagracia.- Under the “Red List Rescue Mission” program and a public-private partnership between the Ministry of Environment, ECORED and the National Botanical Garden, CEPM planted, in the Cotubanamá East National Park, 400 Cotoperí trees , as a way to guarantee the conservation of a forest species in danger of extinction.

The day of reforestation is part of the sponsorship of trees at risk and the recovery and preservation of biodiversity, with the selection of 20 species of flora in danger of extinction, extracted from the Red List, a book of the National Botanical Garden that identifies 813 critically endangered species.

“CEPM not only commits itself to ensure a sustainable, efficient energy system and to offer a quality service to its concession area, but it also assumes a serious social commitment to the environment and natural resources of this side of the country,” he said. Vielka Guzman, Director of Communications and Shared Value of CEPM.

Sasha Mora, of ECORED, thanks the contribution of CEPM and encourages the continuous planting of trees, seeking the protection of aquifer sources, recovering the forest mass and thus curbing the degradation of the ecosystem.

The members of the CEPM, CEB, ACTIVA and CESPM volunteering members participated in this event, collaborating as a contribution to the conservation of biodiversity and mitigation of the effects of climate change, as well as motivating the implementation of the three ecological Rs: reduce, reuse and recycle.

The Cotoperí is a shade tree that maintains its green, leafy foliage and is visually attractive even in seasons like summer. Its fruit can be used as food for cattle and birds.
