Rolando González Bunster: “The Eastern Zone is the engine of the Dominican economy”.

The president of InterEnergy Group, CEPM’s parent company, highlights the growth of tourism in the eastern part of the country as indicated by the increase in CEPM’s electricity generation: the highest in its history.
La Altagracia, June 5, 2023 – During his participation in the X Golf Tournament of the Asociación de Hoteles Romana Bayahibe, the president of InterEnergy Group, CEPM’s parent company, Rolando González Bunster, highlighted the tourism growth that the eastern part of the country is experiencing, taking into account the indicator of the electricity generation peaks in this tourist area.
Specifically, the businessman compared the level of electricity generation in the eastern region with countries that are currently positioned as economic powers in the American region.
“CEPM reached 171.8 MW of generation last Friday, the highest peak in its history,” said the businessman, about which he stressed that this electric company aspires to continue beating this record in the coming months.
“This demonstrates the outstanding growth of Dominican tourism, especially in the eastern zone. This is our wealth and the engine of our economy,” he concluded.

In the framework of World Environment Day, González Bunster shared his concern for the effects of climate change that especially affect this tourist area, with special attention to sargassum. In this regard, he recalled the shared commitment to the sustainable development of the area for which CEPM advocates initiatives such as CEPM Zero, the plan for total decarbonization through 100% clean energy in a period of less than ten years.
Precisely for his contribution to this development and “constant support to the country’s tourism”, from a company that generates a world-class electric service, González Bunster received this Saturday a recognition from the Romana Bayahibe Hotel Association in the framework of its annual meeting with Dominican golf, which celebrated its tenth anniversary this year.
In his words of gratitude, the executive recalled his first steps in this area of the country: “25 years ago we installed the first generation in Bayahibe, a town that at that time had no electricity. A hidden gem in the eastern part of the Dominican Republic, at a time when tourism barely reached La Romana”.
“Much progress has been made in this area since then and today it has become the major engine of the Dominican economy,” he stressed.
“It is a great pride to have participated in this development. Thank you for this recognition, which I don’t think I deserve, but CEPM, all our companies and the team that make them up, who have worked so hard and work so hard for the growth of the country,” he concluded.
