CEPM reaffirms its leadership in reliable electricity supply before the Minister of Energy and Mines

  • CEPM executives presented the state-of-the-art system that guarantees reliable 24/7 electric service, while boosting carbon neutrality, as part of its CEPM Zero project.

Bavaro, March 16, 2025. The Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos, visited this Thursday the facilities of the Consorcio Energético Punta Cana – Macao (CEPM), where he learned in detail the energy system of this company, based on a service committed to reliability and excellence.

During the tour, the minister was accompanied by the president and founder of InterEnergy Group, CEPM’s parent company, Rolando González Bunster; CEPM’s executive director, Roberto Herrera; and the general manager, Óscar San Martín, among other company executives. Alfonso Rodríguez, Vice Minister of Energy, was also present as part of the delegation from the Ministry of Energy and Mines.
CEPM reaffirmed during this visit its commitment to operational efficiency, as evidenced by the standards of excellence it maintains. Regarding the distribution loss rate, the company reached 3.23% at the end of February.

This indicator is based on cutting-edge technology such as its Quatro Systems platform, which has made this company the only distributor in the country with 100% of its customers connected to smart meters, allowing them greater control over their consumption in real time, with prepaid and postpaid options.

Road to decarbonization

As part of the CEPM Zero plan towards zero net emissions, the executives presented the progress of its first phase, which will be completed this year, fulfilling the commitment made to President Luis Abinader at Fitur 2022.

The visit included an aerial tour of CEPM ZERO’s solar parks currently in operation and under construction, which are part of a portfolio of 37 photovoltaic projects totaling 270 MWp. These initiatives include partnerships with 21 international hotel chains, which will generate 474,340 MWh of renewable energy in 15 years and reduce 270,848 tons of CO₂ emissions.

Along the way, one of the key milestones will be the incorporation of the Punta Cana 12 plant, equipped with four high-efficiency Wärtsilä engines and a combined capacity of 37 MW. This plant will have a trifuel capacity, based on generation with three types of fuel, ensuring a flexible energy supply, long-term cost stability, and facilitating the integration of renewable energy sources.

As part of this plan, CEPM expands its satellite regasification plant with the addition of two tanks, which provide a total capacity of 686 cubic meters, adding to the current 1,091 cubic meters. This expansion consolidates its position as the largest facility of its kind in the Caribbean, reinforcing the reliability of supply and reaffirming CEPM’s commitment to offer a continuous, high-quality service.

The visit concluded at Evergo Connect, the first electric station in Latin America to operate exclusively with solar energy, with 29 ultra-fast charging stations for electric vehicles. With this infrastructure, CEPM strengthens its commitment to sustainable mobility, as evidenced by the fact that 100% of its vehicle fleet is electric.
