CEPM and Dreams Macao Beach Punta Cana drive energy innovation with photovoltaic project and cutting-edge technology

  • Framed within the “CEPM Zero” initiative, the project seeks carbon neutrality in CEPM and the tourism sector, incorporating advanced storage technology and strengthening the local power grid.
  • With a power of 1.00MWp, this project is composed of 1,680 photovoltaic modules of 600Wp each and is estimated to avoid the emission of 1,320 tons of CO2 per year, equivalent to 1,098 barrels of oil.

La Altagracia. – In a joint effort to promote sustainability and contribute to the care of the environment, the Consorcio Energético Punta Cana Macao (CEPM) and Dreams Macao Beach Punta Cana are celebrating the opening of an innovative photovoltaic park at the hotel’s facilities.

With the installation of 1,680 photovoltaic modules, the project will generate an estimated 1,867 MWh of energy per year with a power of 1.00MWp, and will avoid the emission of 1,320 tons of CO2 per year, equivalent to 1,098 barrels of oil. This important step not only ensures a sustainable source of energy for the hotel’s operations, but also mitigates the environmental impact associated with traditional power generation.

Oscar San Martin, CEPM’s General Manager, expressed “We celebrate the opening of this photovoltaic park at Dreams Macao Beach Punta Cana as a concrete step towards a more sustainable future. This project will not only generate economic benefits to the client, but also reinforces a shared commitment to reducing emissions and promoting sustainable practices in the tourism industry.“.

Angel Julio Peña, General Manager of Dreams Macao Beach Punta Cana said “.We are committed to a comprehensive approach to sustainability in every aspect of our operations. This photovoltaic park adds to our many efforts to move towards a more sustainable operation, providing a valuable source of clean, green energy to reduce our environmental footprint.“.

Dreams Macao Beach Punta Cana has implemented a Carbon Offset and Carbon Footprint Reduction Plan, which encompasses strategies from the construction phase to post-operation projects. As part of its sustainability policy, it focuses on processes that favor energy savings, such as the construction of a photovoltaic plant to contribute 18% of renewable energy to the system, the reduction of the use of fossil fuels with 70% electric cars, a chilled water cooling system and a hot water system using accumulators with thermal insulation of the pipes. In addition, CO2 emissions are offset by planting trees, with a total of 1,541 T/CO2 offset by 2023.

The recently inaugurated photovoltaic plant is an integral part of the active implementation phase of key projects within the “CEPM Zero” initiative, with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality at CEPM and becoming one of the world’s first zero-emission, 100% renewable electric utilities.

In addition, this effort is complemented by the expansion of the infrastructure and storage systems of 110 MW, strengthening the robustness of the grid of this electric company. As part of this strategic plan, CEPM is working closely with hotel, industrial and commercial clients in the installation of photovoltaic parks, sharing the purpose of turning the eastern part of the country into a model of sustainable development of world reference.

The collaboration between CEPM and Dreams Macao Beach Punta Cana highlights a shared commitment to more sustainable practices, propelling the region as a leader in responsible tourism and setting a new standard for the energy and environmental future of this important tourist area.
