The Consorcio Energético Punta Cana – Macao (CEPM) Executive Director, Roberto Herrera, was one of the guest speakers at the Clean Energy Forum of the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (AMCHAMDR).
Mr. Herrera spoke in his capacity as President of the Dominican Association of the Electrical Industry (ADIE) and said that the sustainability of electricity in the Dominican Republic depends on having a diversified matrix. “But it is not yet possible to rely solely on renewable energies as many of us would hope, especially because of our island status. We do, however, believe that in the next few years we will continue to see discussions that will make this happen in the not too distant future”, he said.
Herrera stressed that the fact that the Dominican Republic enjoys one of the most diversified energy matrixes in the region, and also needs -as any important infrastructure project does- that there is a sound long-term planning that allows the development the efficient projects that are required by “our systems”.
He finished by saying that the private sector has been investing in technologies that allow diversification of the power generation matrix in the Dominican Republic.
